ARCHIVE: A visit to Pennine Way Junior Academy, Swadlincote, Derbyshire

"Tim was great at communicating before the visit, he asked what objectives we were teaching and planned his visit accordingly. The pupils were engaged and inspired to continue the work throughout the focus unit. Tim positively interacted with the pupils from the second he walked through the door to moment he left" Sascha Hurst, Head of Year 3, Pennine Way Junior Academy

What an entertaining morning spent at Pennine Way Junior Academy, Swadlincote on 25th January 2022.

It always brings me great pleasure when I visit new schools and what an entertaining morning Lord Ted and I spent meeting new faces in Year 3. I would like to say a huge thank you to Miss. Hurst, Head of Year 3, for inviting me.

We discussed my own adventures with the Poppy and Lord Ted journey so far, answered some challenging questions, and discussed my new competition. The focus was all about traditional tales and fairy tales and we spent time understanding how these can create an understanding of good core values then linked these to the schools’ values and the values within The Adventures of Poppy and Lord Ted. We also looked at what makes a good tale or story and used adjectives to describe their favourite stories, many of which surrounded the Harry Potter novels which are fabulous at helping to describe characters. The discussions around what’s better – film v book – split the classes into what they believed was best but when using imaginations, books won out.

Thanks again to the very well mannered children that made my visit so pleasurable, all the class teachers and Caroline Hughes for the initial contact. I got to see the wonderful library and shown what can be done with book donations and correct funding.

I am looking forward to returning to Pennine Way one day.
