ARCHIVE: A visit to All Saints’ C.E. Primary School, Alrewas, Staffordshire

What a fantastic visit to Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 on 17th January 2022 at All Saints’ C.E. Primary School in Alrewas, Staffordshire.

As well as donating over £1000 of books for their library, I got to meet the Panthers, Ocelots, Jaguars and Lions. Each session was a Q&A based affair with lots of questions about the origins of the story, why I started and what happens next. We managed to read a little of the story in most sessions and then discussed, at length, the new competition to create a new meaningful and relevant character for the next Poppy and Lord Ted book. The adventure continues in a second book that will be released before Christmas this year and we are offering the opportunity for someone to have their character and name featured in the next published book! This caused much excitement as they realised their name could be in print. There seems to be some budding writers at All Saints, and I am looking forward to seeing their entries – please see my News & Blog page and social media accounts for more information.

The children were so well mannered, a credit to the school and the values it stands for which we also discussed and how these are mirrored in The Adventures of Poppy and Lord Ted.

Thanks to Mrs. McCarthy for making the visit happen in these Covid times in a well ventilated hall, all the class teachers for their support and all the children for making me feel so welcome.

I returned to sign their books on 8th February and I to see how the children are getting on with the character competition.

"The author was very kind and he gave us a book mark and a badge. He read us a chapter of the book. He introduced us to Lord Ted”

Jem

“His book sounded really interesting. It was set London. His granddaughter is in the book"

Maisie

“I am reading ‘The Adventures of Poppy and Lord Ted: The First Summer’ and it is very exciting"
